Things to do and see in Leeds
Leeds Castle, which served six Medieval Queens of England as a dwelling, is of much historical importance and an excellent location for a day out. There is much to do there, including golf, a walk in the many formal gardens or the secretive grotto. There is also a Dog Collar museum here as well as a maze, greenhouses, a vineyard and an aviary. Not only are these beautiful to look at but a lot can be learned from them. It is close to the train station and can also be reached by bus.
Tropical World in Roundhay Park is a great visit to all things wildlife. It is a beautiful location with waterfalls, swamps, fish and various plants which are awe-inspiring. Not only can you observe animals in their natural habitat, but you can also visit the Butterfly House where a collection of many different species of butterflies has been maintained, or visit the Creature Corner, containing some of the rarest species of reptiles. There is also an Aquarium to top it all off.
Visit the Royal Armouries Museum which offer free entry to the majority of its events. It contains 8500 different objects as well as galleries based on 5 very diverse themes. There is also a lot of emphasis on family entertainment with some greatly engaging shows including horse shows where there are actual knights engaged in battle.
The West Yorkshire Playhouse, is an internationally acknowledged production theatre, quenching the city’s thirst for art. 16 of its own shows are produced each year, so there’s always something to entertain one with – else the several hundred performances and other community events hosted by the same site are always an enjoyable alternative, with a restaurant and bar on site as another relaxing option.
Another grand form of architecture is Harewood House, constructed in the 18th century, and furnished by Chippendale, has both old and new in store. Historic paintings are balanced out by more modern art, with a lake and garden for the nature loving, and family events and activities for the delight of all, including children.
With a lively city centre and brilliant displays of both contemporary and ancient architecture throughout the city, Leeds will never serve to disappoint.
